Entrance Exams For MBA

MBA careers are highly rewarding. There is indeed cut throat competition for students to get into the premium B-schools of India. Numerous all India entrance examinations are held for institutes to select the best of the students across the nation.

Entrance examinations are one of the major factors that determine the score of the student based on which he or she is selected for the next round of evaluation that is group discussions and personal interviews.

Entrance Exams The Indian Institute of Management conducts an all India entrance exam called Common Admission Test (CAT) that is conducted in different centers across India. Most of these entrance tests range from two to three hours. Questions with multiple choices are given from which a student is expected to select one and enter the answer in the answer sheet. Cracking The GD And PI’s

Selection of students for MBA is indeed a rigorous task. After the entrance examinations are over and the scores are distributed, students with the highest scores get a call for the GD (Group Discussion) and PI (Personal Interview) which is the second round for the evaluation. Students from these are finally selected for the course.
Some of the tips for cracking the GDs and the PIs are as follows:
Tips for PIs:

  • Provide examples to elaborate on the information on the resume and application.
  • Be open and honest about everything that you say to the interviewer.
  • Follow proper business decorum.
  • The body language is as much visible to the interviewer as ones spoken language. Keep a watch on your hand movements, body posture, eye contact etc.
  • Be confident about yourself. Do not be nervous.
  • Be courteous and polite
  • Given a chance, talk about your passion and hobbies.

Tips for GDs:

  • Cracking The GD And PI's Express your opinion in a brief and a concise manner
  • Do not keep blabbering. Give others a chance to speak.
  • If summarizing, it should not dwell on one side of the GD
  • State relevant facts and figures wherever necessary.
  • Use quotes
  • Site examples to illustrate your point
  • Listening is as important as speaking
  • Maintain eye contact and body language.

It is a common belief that students who initiate the GD always tend to get more points than others. However starting a GD is a risk taking proposition. If the student knows well enough about the topic and can correctly take the group into the flow of discussion with stating the facts and figures accurately and not mumbling or rattling, then the strategic move of starting a GD pays off but if a student is not confident about the topic then it is better to keep mum and contribute later in the GD.
